Books to feed the word-hungry

Went to 'The Big Bad Booksale' in Amcorp mall just now. Ok, so the name sounds pretty lame - but the sale was AWESOME! Hundreds of books from autobiographies to fiction to self-help were on sale for as little as 5 Ringgit! Actually, most of them were either 5 or 8 Ringgit. Which converts to less than 3 Aussie dollars. A-may-zing! Obviuosly, being as word-hungry as I am and also considering the fact that I now am officially on holiday, I pretty much went crazy - picking up books like a tornado over Texas. Got myself a few thriller/mystery novels, a cookbook, an autobiography, another novel and a book of poems (for my sister whose attention span only lasts for one page - I figured she'd be able to handle reading the occasional poem since most of them are only a few lines long. hehe.).

So basically I bought 8 books (which will hopefully get me through the whole summer) and it only cost me RM60!! The other people there were walking around with cardboard boxes with easily over 20 books in them!! Seriously, I felt like Christmas had come early. I was that excited.

And now to read them - Fun fun fun :)

The Dashwood Sisters' Secrets of Love

So I just finished reading this book: The Dashwood Sisters' Secrets of Love by Rosie Rushton. Yes I knowww, it's a book that's meant to be read by teens (and we all know that I'm NOT one anymore, boo-hoo). And before you judge me, you should know that it was actually lent to my 16 year old sister by one of her 16 year old friends. But I ended up reading it.

It wasn't very good. Just your average mindless teeny-boppy novel that highlights the love lives of the 3 Dashwood sisters (aged 13, 16 and 17). But it was vaguely entertaining. I'd forgotten what it felt like to be that age! And it wasn't even that long ago! So in a way, this book was kinda cool :)

I really needed a break from all those grown-up novels I was reading anyway :p

Coming Soon: Merdeka!!

Lol. I don't know why, but being in a foreign country makes me feel more patriotic :p
I'm quite excited about having a reason to celebrate being Malaysian. Woo hoo. Merdeka!
I hope it is a good weekend.

I miss home :(

I'm reading 'The Kite Runner' and I must say that it's one of the best books I've read in a looong time. The story, the setting, the characters, the way it has been written... everything about it! It's all so good :)

What IS 'The Secret'?

Recently, everyone has been talking about this book called 'The Secret'. Apparently it is a life changing experience to have read this book... Ooookaayyyy. Yeah, right :p

Well, I went for my routine dental check-up this afternoon and my dentist's waiting area had a copy of the book. I wanted to know what this amazing life-changing secret was and so I casually flipped through the book. I found a page that said 'What is the Secret?'. Guess what the answer was? I would never have guessed what was coming next. Well, the Secret is.... wait for it... Attraction o_O

Yeah, well I guess it sort of made sense. Our lives are based on different attractions to anything and everything that surrounds us everyday. But it took an over-hyped book to tell us that? I didn't have time to read more but my sister says that there is more than one Secret in that book. I guess its for me to discover when I have more time :p

So for now, the Big Secret seems to be ATTRACTION. Gah! I wish I had thought of that...
