Yeah, the movie's been getting really bad reviews. But in its defence, I think there were a lot of really good points that were raised in it, only that they were executed very badly. Good points + bad execution = GIANT flop.
*sigh*
I really like Sandra Bullock movies... except maybe this one.

Needs Some Oiling...
Lol. No, I'm not implying anything dodgy. Just that in my case, when I stop doing something for awhile, I usually find it very hard to bring myself to get back into the habit of doing it regularly again. Take for example this blog - I stopped posting things for quite sometime and now I've become too lazy to put my thoughts to plasma! (I use the word "plasma" because obviously since I'm typing on my laptop, using the word "paper" would be highly inappropriate :p)
And so here I am again, trying to oil my chains so that they get cranking and stay in motion for a bit...
On a totally different note, I recently watched 2 movies at the Malaysian Film Festival here in Melbourne and I must say that the whole experience made me feel so proud to be Malaysian! The films were 'Talentime' and 'Muallaf', both by the late Yasmin Ahmad. When she passed away in July this year, I must admit that I could not for the life of me fathom what all the fuss was about - the Malaysian film industry had apparently 'lost one of it's brightest minds'. But now, after watching the 2 movies - Talentime being the perfect potrayal of Malaysia's melting pot of cultures, and Muallaf bringing up the issue of religious tolerance - I realise just how great a loss her death is. And 3 months later, I am grieving this loss.

Serendipity
I recently watched the movie, Serendipity, starring Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack. My first thought was - "What a stupid movie".
Indeed, it was kinda dumb. The cheesy 'love-at-first-sight' (yes, I'm a non-believer); the annoying mis-coincidences... i.e. how they just kept missing each other at every place they went to; the crazy, frantic dashing around trying to find each other. Meh.
BUT (and there always is a but)
I could appreciate one thing (I use the word 'thing' because I can't find a better word to describe it) in this movie - the idea of leaving everything to fate. Though I don't believe that everything is fated, I do think that sometimes things happen for a reason (fate?) and sometimes we have to make our own fate, pave our own path, charter our own course.
This movie however got me thinking about how easy and convenient and comfortable it would be for us if we could just leave everything to fate - put all our trust in the fact that if something was meant to happen, then fate would take it's due course and make it happen. It certainly takes a lot of pressure off of wondering whether you should make that first move on the guy that you fancy or how much hard work you should put in for your exam preparation. It would be so simple to just live life without the burden of thinking that "good things come to people who work hard enough for them" and let everything else be determined by fate.
Yeah.... No. I think that kind of thing only exists in movies. In the real world, we make things happen on our own. Well, most of the time.
Taoism says that "the universe works harmoniously according to its own ways and that exerting one's will on the world will disrupt this harmony".
I can't remember why I quoted that... It's too late and my brain is dying from a lack of sleep. So I shall end this post here and leave you to ponder about the Taoism quote on your own :p Good luck.

Wall E
On Tuesday, I went with a few friends to (somewhat reluctantly) watch Disney and Pixar's widely acclaimed 'WALL.E'. I say I was reluctant because I could not imagine how I would find a weird robot making weird robotic sounds and zooming around a dying planet interesting.
BUT
I'd heard many people talking about what a good movie it was and decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. So I watched it.
AND...
It was good!! Better than good in fact. The storyline was highly original and also totally different from any other animated film thus far. There was also a good balance of humour and drama. Within the first 10 minutes of the movie, I had fallen desperately in love with WALL.E. I know you would never believe me if you just looked at the poster, but WALL.E is sooooo cute throughout the whole movie! I wanted to squeeze him so bad! But of course, he's made out of steel and would therefore be a hazard to me if I did ever get the chance (perhaps in my dreams? :p) to squeeze him.
Sooooo, my advice to anyone reading this who hasn't already watched the movie is to WATCH THE MOVIE!

Gossip Girl Season 2 is coming out SOON!!!!
Lol, I never understood what all the hype about this tv series (or even the books that it is based on) was about until I watched a bit of it myself.
I started with episode 7 because it was all that I had on my laptop. Ok, so maybe I was a little intrigued... But I still couldn't get over the fact that the kids who were supposed to be in high school looked so old while their parents looked that much younger!
After a few weeks (yeah, it took that long to get my brain used to the weird age thing :p), I found myself wanting to give episode 1 a try. So I got myself episodes 1 and 2 and I watched them. I was officially hooked!!
2 more episodes later, I was craving for the rest of the season! So I got it off a friend and we had a 4 hour Gossip Girl marathon to finish the season. Yay!!!
Now, I am patiently waiting for season 2 (that darn writers' strike!). And it's going to be out in just over a week! Woo hoo :D :D
I would LOVE to sign off with an 'xoxo' but that would be too corny :p

Yesterday
Well, my family decided to have a 'family outing' to Mid Valley yesterday. So the programme was shopping then lunch then movie (Sweeney Todd).
Shopping was annoying because there weren't any sales going on and all I bought was a bagful of toiletries from Watson's. Yes, a lot of fun indeed.
Had lunch at the food court then went for the movie...
The movie... :s
I had such high hopes for Johnny Depp and the movie in general but these hopes were very quickly trampled over and squashed by the gory, bloody throat-slitting scenes (I agree with you, Jeremy!). And yes, there were many of these scenes. blegh!! There are only a handful of ways to kill someone with a shaving blade '= ='. Johnny still did a very good job playing ST and his singing was really good too. I believe even his voice did some acting while he was singing all those songs (if that's possible...) So overall, it wasn't a very good movie. I expected so much more!
Summary of what happened yesterday:

- I got to spend money that wasn't mine :p
- My parents watched a movie with my sister and me after a veerrryyyy loooonnngg time
- My dad stayed awake for the whole movie! I was quite surprised.
- The supermarket was having an offer for Vitagen. I now have a lot of happy bacteria partying in my intestines. lol :p
- The so-called 'sale' was pretty much non-existent!
- I couldn't find nice flip-flops to buy (they had sizes 6 and 8, but no 7) :(
- My dad scolded the girl sitting behind him in the cinema for kicking his seat. So embarrassing!!!
- The movie was Disappointing. But I still love Johnny Depp!!
- I couldn't find the brand of butter I like and so had to settle for a brand I'd never heard of :s

Crazy/Beautiful
I was watching this movie on TV today and in the beginning thought "what a pointless movie this is". As the movie progressed, I began thinking "what an annoying movie!! ggrrrr...". Seriously. The character played by Kirsten Dunst had to be the most screwed up person I've ever known/seen. She seems to hate herself and yet she is self-involved enough to feel sorry for herself at the same time. Which is what annoyed me the most. She should just make up her mind already!! I could go on, but I'm sure you get the picture ;)Towards the end of the movie however, I realised that it wasn't such a bad movie after all. It gave a pretty good insight to the life of an emotionally screwed up teenager (which was played really well by Kirsten Dunst) and there were some touching father-daughter scenes thrown in to good effect. So overall, I had a much better impression of the movie than I did initially. (But the girl still annoys me :p)
